Governor’s Safe and Drug-Free Schools and Communities Program -
Request for Proposals, 2008-2009
Governor's Safe and Drug-Free Schools and Communities Act grants are intended to support drug and violence prevention activities. Projects in the following four categories will be funded:
- Category 1: Replication of Evidence-Based Programs for Youth Who Need Special Services/Additional Resources;
- Category 2: Replication of Evidence-Based Programs;
- Category 3: Community Prevention Needs Assessments; and
- Category 4: Continuation of Effective Programs.
Proposals are due May 21, 2008 at noon. The grant period is July 1, 2008 to June 30, 2009.
Eligible Applicants: Community-based organizations (including community anti-drug coalitions); local school divisions; other public entities & private organizations.
Mandatory Pre-Submission Workshop: Prospective grantees must send a representative to one of three regional RFP Technical Assistance workshops to be conducted on the following dates:
- Friday, February 29, 2008 - Newport News
- Wednesday, March 5, 2008 - Wytheville
- Friday, March 7, 2008 - Stafford County
Each workshop will begin at 9 a.m. and end at 11 a.m. Participants are invited to stay for an optional workshop on Grant Writing Basics, featuring tips from veteran grant-writers: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. each day.
